Pensive

He stares at me with a thoughtful eye,
Till I couldn't ignore him anymore.
I turned to him, and he looked at the sky,
But I asked what he was staring for.
He tried to deny it;
He tried to hide it,
But I pressed on,
And if if weren't for that, you wouldn't have this song.
REFRAIN
I can't help but notice,
You look so sad;
You look like you've been treated bad.
All the storm clouds are in your eyes,
Waiting for solitude, for a chance to cry.
Oh, I promise you can tell me;
Who hurt you?
You're so pensive, pensive, pensive;
Why are you so pensive, pensive;
Such a pensive girl?

I laughed at him, and said he was wrong,
But the storm clouds returned when he had gone.
When I turned around I found a bare wall,
Where his photo once hung in the hall.
I tried to deny it;
I tried to hide it,
But I could find it,
So I pressed on,
And if it weren't for that, you wouldn't have this song.
REFRAIN

During my search for my one true love,
I found a tear-stained child in the corners.
I asked the child why she was crying so;
She said, "I'm not; I'm a great warrior."
She tried to deny it;
She tried to hide it,
But I pressed on,
And if it weren't for that, you wouldn't have this song.
REFRAIN

When I didn't give up, she soon changed,
And from where she had sat, a beast arose.
I didn't understand, and tried to run,
But the beast came down and seized hold of me,
And it turned out to be
My own denial,
And my own fear,
And if it weren't for that, this song wouldn't be here.
REFRAIN

I need help;
I don't want help.
Pensive, pensive, pensive,
Pensive, Pensive,
Pensive girl...
I need help;
I don't want help.
Pensive, pensive, pensive...
I'm pensive, pensive,
A pensive girl.
I need help;
I don't want help.
Pensive, pensive, pensive,
Pensive, pensive, pensive,
Pensive, pensive, pensive...
