Standoffish

( My name is not Mike, but it rhymed. X)

You look a little stand-offish;
You don't want to be here, do you?
Well, neither do I,
So if you don't mind,
I'll just stand beside you.
Look at the fools,
Staring at us;
They're all thinking the same thing.
They think we should dance,
Just because they're dancing,
But I don't even know your name.
I don't know your name!
Now that's a shame;
But I can guarantee
Some of those fools think we're in love.
You look a little standoffish;
Well, I understand,
And unlike these fools,
I won't take your hand;
I'll just stand beside you.
Why don't we talk?
What books do you like?
Say, those are grand!
Say, my name is Mike;
What is yours?
You look a little stand-offish,
But you don't stand alone;
There's room in this corner
For two,
And I don't dance or drink either,
So if you don't mind,
I'll just stand beside you.
Oh hey, you were drawing
Before I came;
May I see?
My, that's pretty swell!
If these fools stood against walls
Drawing during the dance,
Maybe they could draw half as well.
You look a little stand-offish;
You don't know why you came.
Well, it's just the same with me.
But now that I'm here,
Don't let me stand alone,
When I can enjoy such
Fine company.
Look at the fools!
Look at the fools!
Look at the fools!
They're almost as foolish as we!
Well, go on, let them have their fun;
But it doesn't look fun to me.
You look a little stand-offish,
You look a little alone,
You're looking a little weary;
Well, I can fix that,
And you don't have to dance,
If you'll only stand out with me.

  1. I like the last picture best for the song, I think.
