You Were You

Day after day as the sun is rising,
I am waiting, pacing, crying,
Somehow you never seem to be there;
You never seem to hear or care.
Oh... and it falls like rain.
Oh... but it never washes away the pain.
Oh... and you could have been anyone,
And maybe I wouldn't care,
But you were you...
You were you...
And I'll never stop missing you.

Night after night as the sun is falling,
I am waiting, pacing, calling.
Somehow you never seem to come;
Somehow it doesn't feel like home.
Oh... and it falls like rain.
Oh... but it never washes away the pain.
Oh... and you could have been anyone,
And maybe I wouldn't care,
But you were you...
You were you...
And I'll never stop missing you.

Day after day as the world is waking,
I'm at work, my patience faking,
Somehow you're never a customer,
Somehow I never see you here.
Oh... and it falls like rain.
Oh... but it never washes away the pain.
Oh... and you could have been anyone,
And maybe I wouldn't care,
But you were you...
You were you...
And I'll never stop missing you.

Night after night as the world is sleeping,
I'm awake, restless watch keeping,
Somehow you never seem to arrive;
But somehow hope will always thrive.
 Oh... and it falls like rain.
Oh... but it never washes away the pain.
Oh... and you could have been anyone,
And maybe I wouldn't care,
But you were you...
You were you...
And I'll never stop missing you.
